Job Description
Role Summary
The Head of Medical will be the Lead Physiotherapist at the club and must be a Chartered Physiotherapist, HCPC registered and hold IMMOPF/PHICIS/ATMMIF qualification. They will manage and provide complete medical care of all first team squad players to the highest standards.
The Head of Medical will manage and oversee the medical and rehabilitation staff and take responsibility for all medical matters at the club working closely with the club’s Doctor and First Team Coach.
Location
The job holder will be required to work at clubs training base at Tong, as well as Bartercard Odsal Stadium. They will also be required to travel with the first team to all first team away fixtures.
Specific responsibilities
• Manage a professional medical department with the highest standards ensuring players have the appropriate medical support, treatment and care at all times
• Manage staff within the medical department as well as mentoring and supporting the Academy and Scholarship physiotherapists
• Ensure first team players have the appropriate medical treatment and care at all times providing medical screening and physical tests
• Ensure appropriate soft tissue and manual therapy interventions are carried out to a high standard for all first team players.
• Manage injury assessment and the medical treatment of all first team player and young professionals
• Work closely with and coordinate medical care with the Club Doctor and Super League Injury Audit
• Ensure medical compliance with regulations including cardiac screening
• Be responsible for and maintain up to date, accurate and secure medical records completed in line with CSP/HCPC/ GDPR standards using the clubs medical notes systems
• Oversee appropriate pitch based medical cover at all training sessions and home fixtures including traveling with the first team to away fixtures
• Work closely with the sports science department and take responsibility for rehabilitation programmes for injured players managing their return to train and play protocol
• Working with the Strength and Conditioning department design bespoke programmes for first team squad players to both prevent injuries and help to manage players with known medical needs
• Provide regular medical updates and supply any important medical information on first team players to the football management staff as well as providing updates to the Chief Executive
• Be a point of contact and liaise with Physiotherapists and medical departments of parent clubs of loan players
• Take responsibility for the design and implementation of a robust medical examinations process for incoming players and provide medical advice to the recruitment team and CEO
• Arrange appointments for scans and referrals with consultants and specialists and ensure appropriate follow up’s and consultation with all medical experts as part of the medical care of players
• Manage the booking of medical appoints and manage costs
• Take responsibility for all medical equipment ensuring it is in good working order, well maintained and transported to required locations
• Manage stock levels of medical supplies and consumables, ensuring all is operational and in date
• Take responsibility for your own continued professional development as well as that of the club’s other medical staff
• Identify the need for, recruit and manage a team of interns to support the medical department
• Strictly follow the club’s policies and procedures in relation to the role
• Undertake such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time
The following credentials are considered essential for the position:
• BSc/MSc Physiotherapy
• HCPC registered
• CSP membership
• Hold current IMMOPF/PHICIS L3/ATMMIF
• Experience in a similar role within an elite sports environment
• Excellent communication skills
• The ability to work on own initiative as well as being able to work as part of a team
• To work flexible hours as the role requires – including evenings, weekends and public holidays
• A commitment to continuing professional development
• Based within close commutable distance to the club or willingness to relocate
• Enhanced DBS
Desirable
• Post graduate Masters - e.g sports physiotherapy, rehab etc
• Acupuncture qualification
• Sports massage qualification
